If you are into snowboarding and are looking for some tips and tricks, here are a few.
One popular stunt is the kickflip. You should practice on a flat zone, anywhere, and do it stationary. Start with some good bent metal binders because they have the highest heel cup, good for digging toes in. Place your front foot against the back of the front lining, take back foot and dig your toe big toe in the heel cup, put as much pressure as you can on the back foot. Lift you front foot and push on the heel cup while jumping straight up in the air. Your board should flip completely over, and you should land right on top of it. Be careful not to land on the heel cups, that can hurt. Be sure that your feet land flat on the board. The best way to get any trick or stunt is to practice. Doing it stationery is the best way to practice. Once you can do it several times over successfully, you can start practicing it moving. It's a lot more difficult when you are actually moving out there on the slopes, so make sure you really have it down. It takes more balance on the slopes. Balancing on the heel cup is the difficult part, but with practice you will get it.
A more advanced move is Backside sevens. It is a 720 degree turn. A Backside seven is starting from behind you, traveling in reverse. To practice, when you get into the air you want to start by making 180 degree turns first. Gradually increase the degree of your turns and move on to 360s, 540s, and then you can move on to the 720s. You really need to make sure that your jump is good enough. You need to be high enough to make the turn before you land, otherwise you could get hurt. You need a medium sized jump. Go up on the heel edge, shift to your toe side, going up to lift, pop off turning your shoulders look all the way around, almost 2 rotations. At around 630 degrees, when your back is facing the landing, start spotting your landing, open up, look at the landing, position yourself and stomp to land. Remember, practice makes perfect and be safe too.
Here are some safety tips that I personally follow:
Make sure you are in shape to ski. If you are out of shape you may not be strong enough to keep yourself balanced and controlled.
Warm up and cool down. Like any sport, you should warm up and stretch before you head to the slopes. When you are all done, you should bring your heart rate down and do some more stretches.
Wear warm clothing and crash helmets. Remember that you are out there in the snow and it's cold. Cover yourself in layers and protect your head and ears. In case of a miscalculation, you should wear a helmet to minimize injury.
Make sure all of your equipment fits well. Don't borrow equipment. Everything should feel comfortable on you, or you could get hurt.
Have fun, and practice. You may not get everything right away, but take your time and you will get it eventually.
